The review is devoted to the book «The Great Reform: On the 150th Anniversary of Judicial Charters. In 2 vol. Vol. I: The Code of Civil Procedure» (ed. by E.A. Borisova). The reviewer notes that this kind of collective monographs can not be regarded as a simple tribute to the distant past legal, which is gone forever. On the contrary, the past is always there, it largely determines events of the future, so looking intently at it, understanding motives and actions of precursors we can associate main historical and legal parallels, not copy literally, but perceive the positive scientific and practical experience, avoid possible explicit and implicit legal errors. It is especially important during indigenous government reforms, including the judicial reform, which has been carried out in the Russian Federation since 1991 and not completed until now, evidences of what, in particular, are the emergence of the unified Supreme Court of the Russian Federation and the recent approval by national legislator of the Concept of the unified Civil Procedure Code of the Russian Federation. Authors proceeded from this ideological promise during writing the book, in which history and present civil procedure law and justice are intertwined and inseparable, partly dictate each other and co-exist in one spatial dimension.

Keywords: review; civil procedure; proceedings; judicial reform.
