The article is devoted to the XII Annual Student Moot Court «Russian National Legal Debate – 2017» which took place on the base of the Law Faculty of the Kazan (Volga region) Federal University on April 21–22, 2017. The text shows the main steps of appearing the idea of creating the event and shows actual issues of legal realities which were discussed in the frame of event. The article also shows results of academic discussions and debates. Besides, the authors bring up issues of educational and scientific-practical effects of this kind of students conferences. There are shown not only debates of the Law faculty of the KFU, but also experience of «debates schools» of other Russian universities, methods of preparing to the competition and meaning of the process for life and future career of young lawyers. Moreover, the article says about scholars and representatives of court and law enforcement systems, who took part in the competition as judges and longstanding partners of the project.
