The article relates the story of the First International Scientific-Practical Convention for undergraduate and postgraduate students that took place on 17–19 November 2016 at the Law Faculty of the Kazan (Volga region) Federal University. Research work of students is important factor of development of future lawyers. The tradition of carrying annual students’ conference was started on 12 of November 2004. First, the conference has had the status of Russian event, but it became international conference in 2006 already. The format of the conference became grand at 2013: conference committee received 1000 applications, selected 500 participants, conference got dozens of partners and full high-profile media coverage. The First International Scientific-Practical Convention for undergraduate and postgraduate students became «legal successor» of the traditional International conferenceand put together synthesis of best practice of organizing conferences, summer schools, science forums and round-table conferences. The main stages leading up to the idea of holding the Convention are highlighted, and the program of the event is described. The article reveals important issues of the legal reality and results of discussions of legal issues, which were touched upon during the event. The article covers the academic, research and practice, and cultural aspects of the Convention.
