This article considers issues of civil and arbitration procedure teaching deriving from
a wide gap between professional competence of graduates and expectations of employers:
lack of professional skills is a significant obstacle to successful employment of graduates.
Nowadays, there is a crisis of effectiveness of the educational process itself, as it is focused
more on acquisition of knowledge than skills. In the context of readily available and rich
information environment the knowledge coming from the teacher is not as valuable as
it used to be; this fact inevitably leads to decrease in students’ motivation for learning in
a traditional format. When it comes to skills, the situation is exactly the opposite: it is not
easy to acquire skills unaided, and for that reason skill acquisition needs guidance. Such
problems can partially be solved by means of implementation of new education methods
with a focus on practice into the educational process. In particular, the author suggests
high use of the project method within the framework of problem-oriented education. The
article substantiates applicability of project technologies to procedural disciplines teaching
both in regards to compliance with requirements for professional competences formation
established by the educational standard and in terms of maximum effective digestion of
education material and students training for future professional activity.

Keywords: civil procedure; teaching; project method; problem-oriented education; team
working; skills.
